The shirt has been cropped, which was very common as people of this day generally wore their pants quite high-waisted. Therefore, to not worry about tucking the shirt to an uncomfortable degree, these were often cropped. Other than the crop, and overall discoloration, this piece is in tremendous condition for being well over 100 years old. These shirts are credited as the predecessor to the modern sweatshirt. They are made of a heavy cotton, which feels dense and almost fleece-like or like a thinner whipcord. The material is soft to the touch, and not itchy. Like a very soft wool, or, understandably, like the softest sweatshirt material you’ve ever felt. Shirt has been sun faded over time, and looking inside the single chest pocket will reveal the original color, a somewhat darker brown. I’ve included images of two gentlemen wearing similar shirts. These are exceedingly rare, especially in this great of condition. Original buttons in place from what I can tell.
