1920s distressed and beautifully darned/repaired German double breasted work knit. Knit is wearable, strong, and fits beautifully with a flattering amount of stretch and drape. A couple of holes at the left armpit and on around a seam on the upperight of the back. These could easily be repaired, but not necessary. Repaired were executed in many different shades of cream, white, black and brown and all complement the color of the garment well. All buttons that once served as the closure are missing. These could be replaced or the item can be worn as an open cardigan style piece — my personal German work knit also does not have any buttons, and I wear it very frequently. These work knits were almost always a black color, with the light natural/cream colors being reserved for butchers, for the same reason why Doctor’s jackets are white — namely it shows if the garment is unclean, as cleanliness and sanitation is important in both fields. Because of the specific use case, this color of this garment is exceedingly rare, especially in a larger size like this. I haven’t seen another.
